Lucky #7

by Emily Evert, NDFB Assistant Corporate Secretary

On October 20th I celebrated seven years of working at NDFB. Yes really, I celebrated! If there is ever an opportunity to observe or acknowledge achievements and success my motto is, “Go big or go home.”

So, how did I celebrate? I asked my husband to take our daughters to church school (they go on Wednesdays) and to grab dinner on his way home. This gave me roughly an hour at home to relax and reflect on my achievements. As they left, I was grateful my husband never checks our family email, because if he did, he would have known there was no church school that night. Yes, that’s right, I knew there was no church school but still sent all three to our church so I could have an hour to myself. Go big or go home, right?! I ended up with just under an hour to myself and my favorite dinner, so it was another successful celebration in my books.

I made a point to take time for myself on my anniversary because when we stop and savor the good stuff, we create barriers against the bad and build resilience. Every day life is stressful and can have many challenges. By taking time to notice what you are proud of and what is working for you, we feel more optimistic. You don’t need decorations or presents, just savor the moment.

Reflecting on my seven years with NDFB without a doubt brings a smile to my face. My kids have grown up with NDFB and love when they get to visit the office! My co-workers are some of the hardest working individuals I have ever known and each one of them has a big place in their heart for NDFB. Not all of us come from agriculture backgrounds, but we all root for each other and watch as everyone grows.
