Just let go

by Lisa Hauf, NDFB Director of Public Relations

When your palms are sweating, your heart is racing and your nerves are at their peak, sometimes the only option is to trust your foundation and let go. This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in a ropes course. I have never done anything like it before. As I drove home after those intense, nerve-racking hours, I thought of some life lessons I had learned that day, lessons that will help me in years to come. For instance:

When you walk your child into school on the first day, with your hands held together because you are nervous for the next chapter to begin – trust in the future and just let go.

When you hand the keys to your anxiously awaiting, teenaged, newly licensed driver – trust in the knowledge you have taught them and just let go.

When a new job has presented itself or maybe retirement is nearing, trust in yourself and let go of the past and embrace the future.

When new things come your way – don’t look behind you. Trust in your abilities. Let go of the old and welcome the new.

But to let go, we must always have trust. We must trust the future, the foundation we have built for ourselves and the people around us.

Participating in the ropes challenge. Trusting and letting go.

By trusting and letting go, we will find success. That success looks different to everyone. Don’t compare your accomplishments to those who climbed higher or let go sooner. The actual victory is that you did it. You let go of the fear and you trusted your foundation. As the change of seasons is approaching and we face new challenges, remember to build a foundation of trust and in your own time, just let go.
